Hotel developers love Foley

Off Dock Services has added another floor to its offices in the Waterman-Smith building at 61 St. Joseph St., in downtown Mobile, according to Josh W. Hall of CRE Mobile, who represented the landlord. The shipping and warehousing company has leased the entire 6th floor just shortly after leasing the entire 7th floor last August. The Waterman-Smith building is a 70,000-square-foot office complex built in 1947 by the Waterman Steamship Corporation.

The Mobile Area Water & Sewer System paid $200,000 for a 2,289-square-foot building at 4725 Moffett Road in Mobile, according to Chris Harle of White-Spunner Realty, who handled the transaction.

Developers plan to build a four-story, 73-unit Cobblestone hotel on 2.19 acres near the Foley Farmer’s Market and Fishermen’s Market on the northeast corner of Miflin Road and Baldwin County 20 and Koniar Way in Foley, according to city officials. The 40,487-square-foot building will include a breakfast area and outdoor pool and seating area. Cobblestone is based in Wisconsin  and has about 170 hotels in operation or under construction.

Construction is under way on the 257-room Embassy Suites Hotel on a 2 acre site on West Beach Boulevard west of Alvin’s Island in Gulf Shores, and a projected completion date is late 2025, according to city officials. The total cost of the mixed-use project just off Ala. 59 is estimated at $85 million and will include a restaurant, street-front retail, a full-service spa, indoor pool and fitness center, a 7,800-square-foot ballroom and 11,800 square feet of conference space.
