Alabama has its coldest night since last spring coming up tonight, according to forecasters.

But first a beautiful fall day is on tap for most, with some sunshine, lower humidity and temperatures in the 60s and 70s, according to National Weather Service forecasts. A spot or two in south Alabama could still hit the 80s.

Here are the forecast high temperatures for Saturday:

A true dose of fall coolness will overspread the state by tonight and take temperatures down to a place they haven’t been since early May.

Lows overnight (Saturday night into Sunday morning) could reach the upper 30s in parts of north Alabama. The weather service is forecasting a low of 36 in Fort Payne, 37 in Stevenson and 39 in Florence. Huntsville, Cullman and Russellville are forecast to drop to 40 degrees overnight.

Central Alabama temperatures are also expected to be on the chilly side, with lows mostly in the low to mid-40s expected:

South Alabama will even feel a taste of fall, with overnight lows expected to fall into to upper 40s to low 50s:

Another cool fall day is expected on Sunday, with highs in the 60s and 70s in the forecast from the weather service:

Sunday night into Monday morning will again be chilly, with lows falling into the 40s statewide:

Look for a gradual warmup going into next week, but there’s a chance that cooler-than-average weather will be in the future for Alabama. Here’s the six- to 10-day temperature outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. It shows a slightly increased probability that Alabama could have below-average temperatures from Oct. 12-16 (next weekend):
