Enviva faces class-action lawsuit, 16% drop to close the week

Gainers outnumbered decliners Friday on our Mobile and Alabama Stock Report, but the headliner was definitely on the negative side.

Enviva plummeted 16%, or $1.10, to fall to a 52-week low of $5.79.

Potentially playing into the drop: According to an Accesswire report Friday, “A class action securities lawsuit was filed against Enviva Inc. that seeks to recover losses of shareholders who were adversely affected by alleged securities fraud between November 3, 2022 and May 3, 2023.”

The wood pellet manufacturer partially exports out of the Port of Mobile and has a major facility coming soon to Epes in Sumter County.

Overall, Wall Street rallied in a whipsaw Friday and erased its morning losses after looking deeper into the nuances of a surprisingly strong report on the U.S. job market.

The S&P 500 climbed 1.2% after charging back from an earlier drop of 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 288 points, or 0.9%, and the Nasdaq composite flipped to a gain of 1.6%.
