Gainers outnumbered decliners Friday on our Birmingham and Alabama Stock Report, closing out the week on a positive note.

Vulcan Materials and General Electric led the pack with gains of 2.6% and 2.5%, respectively.

Jacobs Solutions and Johnson Controls were close by with pickups of 2.4% and 2%.

Medical Properties Trust led the decliners at -3.8%.

Overall, Wall Street rallied in a whipsaw Friday and erased its morning losses after looking deeper into the nuances of a surprisingly strong report on the U.S. job market.

The S&P 500 climbed 1.2% after charging back from an earlier drop of 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 288 points, or 0.9%, and the Nasdaq composite flipped to a gain of 1.6%.
