College football’s elite squads are separating from the pack and Week 6 brings another loaded slate of highly-anticipated matchups.

Best Week 6 College Football games: No. 12 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Texas (-5.5)

Texas is a legitimate College Football Playoff contender after notching a second victory vs. a ranked opponent in Week 5. The Longhorns’ win at Alabama stands as one of the most impressive victories of the 2023 season.

Quinn Ewers is having a Heisman-worthy campaign, with 1,358 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, and one interception. Texas’ defense has also been stellar, allowing 12 points per game, the 13th-best mark in FBS.

In Norman, the Sooners are bouncing back from a 6-7 2022 season in year one under Brett Venables. Oklahoma’s 47 points per game are the third-most in FBS, led by Dillon Gabriel’s 1,593 passing yards and 15 touchdowns.

The Sooners deploy a trio of rushers with 100+ yards on the season. Marcus Major, Tawee Walker, and Jovantae Barnes have combined for 514 yards on the ground.

Best Week 6 College Football games: No. 20 Kentucky vs. No. 1 Georgia (-14.5)

Things got sticky for top-ranked Georgia in Week 5. Auburn, who had home-field advantage, led by 10 points after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs overcame a hostile crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium en route to a 27-20 triumph.

The Tigers pounded Georgia with 219 rushing yards, but a 157-yard performance from Brock Bowers paired with 313 Carson Beck passing yards, prevented the upset.

Georgia has to stop another prolific rushing attack in Week 6 to remain undefeated. Kentucky’s Ray Davis leads the SEC with 594 yards and eight touchdowns.

NC State transfer Devin Leary has looked good for the Wildcats, but turnovers have been an issue. Leary’s five interceptions are the second-most in the SEC, and costly errors must be minimalized vs. the back-to-back National Champions.

Best Week 6 College Football games: Maryland vs. No. 4 Ohio State (-19.5)

Ohio State will be rested and ready to rumble after its Week 5 bye. The Buckeyes passed its first test of 2023, escaping South Bend with a 17-14 victory vs. Notre Dame. TreVeyon Henderson’s 104-yard, one-touchdown performance was his best showing of the year.

Maryland has a perfect record through five games but has beaten down inferior teams. It would be concerning for Terrapins fans if Maryland played in some nail-biters, but the Terps have a +127 point differential and have yet to win by less than 18 points.

Taulia Tagovailoa has been superb, throwing for 1,464 yards and 13 touchdowns on 65% passing. Tua’s younger brother is pacing the Big Ten in passing yards and scores.

Best Week 6 College Football games: No. 23 LSU (-4) vs. No. 21 Missouri

When college football schedules are released for the top dogs of the SEC, matchups with Missouri are typically glossed over as automatic victories. But not this season, as Eli Drinkwitz’s team is 5-0 and has its highest AP ranking since 2015.

Brady Cook, Luther Burden, and Cody Schrader have been a dominant trio for the Tigers, with each ranking top four in the SEC in yardage at their positions. Missouri’s highlight victory came in Week 3 when Harrison Mervis hit a walk-off 61-yard field goal to knock off No. 15 Kansas State 30-27.

Missouri will have its hands full vs. a hungry LSU squad coming off a 55-49 setback against No. 20 Ole Miss. LSU averages 44 points per game, the seventh-most in FBS, and has yet to score less than 24 points on the year.

Cook could be in for a stellar showing vs. a Brian Kelly defense that ranks last in the SEC in passing yards per game.

Best Week 6 College Football games: No. 11 Alabama (-1) vs. Texas A&M

Alabama has been on a tear since its 17-3 victory over USF, beating No. 15 Ole Miss and Mississippi State soundly. The Crimson Tide have been unstoppable on the ground, gaining 324 total yards and four touchdowns in those games.

The Tide have also tormented QBs, tallying nine sacks in that span. Getting past Texas A&M’s offensive line won’t be easy, as the Aggies have allowed just six sacks on the year.

Max Johnson gets the nod for the Aggies after starter Conner Weigman suffered a season-ending foot injury. The sophomore was solid in relief of Weigman during the Auburn game, throwing for 123 yards and two scores. Johnson followed that up with 210 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick vs. Arkansas in Week 5.
