A man died Wednesday afternoon when the ATV he was operating landed on him after it crashed in Chambers County, authorities said Thursday.

Bennie J. Haynes, 53, of LaFayette, was driving a Honda Rancher ATV on Chambers County 160 near Chambers County 158 when the vehicle left the road, struck an embankment, overturned and landed on him around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett.

Haynes was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck about 10 miles north of LaFayette, Burkett said.

Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued to investigate the wreck.
