Who is the Week 6 Cunningham Bounds Coastal Player of the Week?

Mobile Christian ran away with its non-region game at Orange Beach last week and quarterback Damien Gatson was voted the Cunningham Bounds Coastal Alabama Player of the Week by a wide margin for his performance in the win.

The second-ranked Class 3A Leopards beat 4A Orange Beach 39-7 to improve to 6-0. Gatson picked up 19,428 votes – 68 percent of the 28,767 ballots cast in the poll.

The 6-foot-1, 191-pound junior completed 12-of-20 passes for 295 yards with three touchdowns. Gatson had a 70-yard completion to Carson Cooper and a 77-yarder to Aaron Rogers.

McGill-Toolen quarterback Andrew Murchison finished second in the poll with 20 percent of the total. Murchison hit 9-of-13 throws for 194 yards and three TDs as the Yellow Jackets beat St. Michael 35-31.

Excel’s Zaylon McMillian was third in the Week 6 poll. McMillian had 15 carries for 178 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-12 win over rival J.U. Blacksher.

Voting for Cunningham Bounds Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 6, more than 41,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
