Son of Buc-eeâs co-founder arrested for allegedly recording people in bathrooms
Mitchell Wasek, the son of Buc-ee’s co-founder Donald Wasek, is facing 28 counts in Texas after he allegedly recorded people in bedrooms and bathrooms in his apartment and at his father’s lake house, according to a report.
A woman and her friends were staying with Mitchell Wasek at Donald Wasek’s lake house on Lake Travis when one of the guests allegedly noticed a hidden camera plugged into the charging port of a bathroom, Austin, Texas NBC affiliate KXAN reported, citing court records.
The group, which later told authorities Mitchell Wasek was present at the house, left with the camera and found videos of themselves and others in bathrooms and bedrooms in the lake house and Mitchell Wasek’s apartment in Dallas, the outlet reported.
Authorities reviewed the footage and found 68 movies with at least 13 people being recorded “using toilets, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex,” according to KXAN.
Mitchell Wasek was arrested Tuesday on 28 counts of invasive visual recordings.
The videos were recorded as early as 2021 and included footage from an Austin condo and a Colorado vacation home owned by Mitchell Wasek’s parents.
The son of the Buc-ee’s co-founder also allegedly purchased “spy cameras,” on Amazon, according to the affidavit filed in court.
KXAN could not reach neither Mitchell nor Donald Wasek while another member of the family hung up on the station.
The outlet reached out to an attorney representing Mitchell Wasek but had not heard back before publishing the story Wednesday.
He faces a sentence up to two years if convicted of the charges.
