People who recruit doctors to Huntsville have never seen the market like this
You asked this question: I see Huntsville has been recruiting aerospce companies. That’s great. But we really need other industries as well to attract those businesses — most notably good doctors and quality healthcare. What are we doing to attract other important and vital industries that will truly make Huntsville thrive and prosper?
There’s portion of society so predisposed to punctuality, they live by a mantra: If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late.
In today’s medical world – and especially with respect to Huntsville – that holds true, but not necessarily about a punch clock. It’s about having enough physicians to stay on top of needs of the ever-growing Huntsville-area population.
“I am meeting with primary care residents – and it’s a three-year residency – I’m meeting with residents in their first year,” said Josh Hewiett, senior vice president of Physician Services at Huntsville Hospital. ” … So, they’re really not available for two-and-a-half, almost three years, and I’m already interviewing them to join our system.
“That’s what you have to do because most residents are in such high demand now, halfway through their training, they’ve already signed a contract.”
Pre-COVID, Hewiett said, that was a rarity. Now, it’s becoming the new normal.
