Eric Guster sets sights on Bessemer retail, dining in his biggest development project yet

A Birmingham area developer is in the planning stages of his biggest project to date – a combination retail and dining project situated on 13th Avenue North in Bessemer.

Eric Guster said the land – an undeveloped 2.6 acre tract – could be home to three or four buildings that will be built to suit tenants. At least two of the buildings will have drive-through accomodations for food service, and other space for retail, such as a medium box store.

“Maybe office, but we’re looking for either restaurants or shops,” he said. Roughly 20,000 vehicles pass the property daily, he said.

Guster, founder of Guster Law Firm and an area developer, has several projects going. He is currently pumping $2 million into a multi-tenant development at 2250 Bessemer Road which should be ready by the beginning of 2024.

He began planning the 13th Avenue North project about six months ago, he said, after investigating the site and doing an analysis of the retail needs in the area. The project could have between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet of retail space, with less then 150 parking spaces.

SRS Real Estate is handling leasing.

Guster lauded Robert Pless of ServisFirst for providing financing.

“It feels good to know they’ve got my back and believe in what I’m doing,” Guster said.
