Florence police say a man is behind bars after he attempted to sell jewelry and a young woman from a vehicle.

According to police, the incident happened Saturday night in the parking lot of a Florence business.

Officers dispatched on a welfare call talked to a man who said a white Cadillac Escalade stopped him and a man “tried to sell him jewelry and a young female that was in the backseat.”

The man declined the offer and called police.

Officers later pulled over the vehicle in Muscle Shoals. The driver, identified as Gunici Ionut, told police he and the woman were on vacation, traveling through Florence.

Ionut was arrested and charged with promoting prostitution and is being held in the Lauderdale County Detention Center without bond. The Department of Human Resources took custody of the woman.
