A 61-year-old man was struck and killed while he was standing outside his vehicle on Interstate 59 in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Mark Anthony Johnson. He lived in Birmingham.

Authorities said Johnson was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 59 southbound at Interstate 20. The wreck happened at 11:07 p.m. Saturday.

After the initial wreck, Johnson got out of is vehicle. He was then hit by another motorist.

Johnson was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:45 p.m.

Birmingham police are investigating.
