Alabama high school teacher charged in sex abuse of girl under the age of 12

A Tuscaloosa County teacher is under arrest on a child sex charge.

Edward Stanley Kramarczyk, 53, is charged with sex abuse of a child under the age of 12 and first-degree sodomy.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit announced the arrest Saturday night.

Capt. Jack Kennedy said a report was made earlier this week to the unit’s Sexual Assault Section by a juvenile who is a former household member of Kramarczyk. She told investigators she had been sexually abused by him in the past year.

On Thursday, detectives obtained warrants against Kramarczyk and took him into custody.

At the time of his arrest, Kennedy said, Kramarczyk was a teacher at Hillcrest High School.

The Tuscaloosa County School System was notified immediately. The status of his employment following his arrest was not immediately available.

The victim, Kennedy said, was not student of his or the school.

“Kramarczyk had access to children through his occupation as a teacher, had been a foster parent in the past, and may have access to children through other social groups,’’ Kennedy said.

Investigators, the school system, and the Alabama Department of Human Resources are following up with Kramarczyk’s past to ascertain if there are any other victims.

Kennedy said anyone who may have been a victim or knows of any possible abuse by Kramarczyk is asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.

Kramarczyk is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.
