Danny Horn now ranks No. 2 on AHSAA all-time wins list

Central of Clay County coach Danny Horn continues to climb higher on the list of the state’s all-time winningest high school coaches.

Central of Clay County earned a 48-13 victory over Alexandria on Friday night, giving Horn his 346th career victory. That ties legendary Vestavia Hills coach Buddy Anderson’s career total of 346 wins and leaves both at No. 2 all-time and four behind UMS-Wright coach Terry Curtis, whose team was idle this week.

Curtis passed Anderson to become the state’s all-time winningest coach last season.

Darren Harris ran for two touchdowns in Friday’s victory, as the Volunteers (5-0) remained undefeated this season.

Horn has won eight state titles in his head coaching career – 1994, 1995, 1996, 2002, 2002 and 2005 at Clay County and back-to-back 5A titles at Clay-Central in 2018 and 2019. He spent 20 seasons at Clay County (his alma mater), nine at Benjamin Russell in Alexander City and is in his sixth season at Clay-Central, which was created by consolidating Clay County and arch-rival Lineville.
