Live updates from Saban’s radio show before Alabama faces Mississippi State

Alabama football head coach Nick Saban was scheduled to make his weekly radio show appearance on Thursday in Tuscaloosa. Saban was set to take the microphone on “Hey Coach” at 7 p.m. at Baumhower’s Victory Grille.

Saban and his Crimson Tide team are set to continue SEC play Saturday at Mississippi State after beating Ole Miss at Bryant-Denny Stadium last Saturday. The game in Starkville is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN.

— Saban praises the success of Alabama’s golf programs. Says it creates lots of interest for fans to be able to follow golf alums.

— Hennessy asks Saban about his favorite off field memories of Mike Leach. Compares Leach to former Houston Oilers coach Jerry Glanville, in how unique their approaches to coaching was.

Saban says Tide’s first half was “a novelty in how to self-destruct” and it cost UA. Says players need to understand why things work or don’t.

— Saban notes needs to fix costly errors. Says five touchdowns called back because of penalties “might be an NCAA record.” He says players need to have sense of urgency about doing things right.

Saban says he tries to convince players that being in front of the camera can help them build their brand and create value for themselves, especially in the NIL era. Says he wants everybody to want to hire Alabama’s players when they see them speaking to the media.
