There’s a familiar team at No. 1 in in this week’s AL.com Class 5A high school volleyball rankings.

Montgomery Academy, winner of seven state championships, took over the top spot in Class 5A with an impressive week.

The Eagles beat previous No. 1 Arab in addition to downing Class 7A seventh-ranked Hoover and Sparkman, Class 6A seventh-ranked Buckhorn and Briarwood before losing to champion and Class 6A top-ranked Mountain Brook in the semifinal round of Spain Park’s HeffStrong Tournament.

Only Montgomery Academy and Class 7A top-ranked Bob Jones managed to win a set from Mountain Brook in the best-of-three tournament format.

The remainder of No. 1 teams remained the same with Class 7A Bob Jones, Class 6A Mountain Brook, Class 4A Montgomery Catholic, Class 3A Plainview, Class 2A Donoho, Class 1A Addison and AISA Edgewood atop the rankings.

The only undefeated team among the rankings is AISA No. 1 Edgewood Academy (24-0).
