Montgomery woman found shot to death inside burning home

An investigation is underway after a Montgomery woman was found slain inside her burning home.

Montgomery police and fire medics responded at 5:30 a.m. Sunday to Jacqueline Best’s house in the 3500 block of Fairground Road on a report of a fire.

The 39-year-old Best, a mother and grandmother, was found dead inside. An autopsy showed she had been shot, police Maj. Saba Coleman said Wednesday.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Best’s family is devastated by her death.

“My mom was the kind of women who could walk through the room and fill it with laughter,’’ said daughter Jasmine Freeman. “My mom was my hero through everything.”

“I just want to find out how this happened to her and why,’’ Freeman said. “I’m just so thankful to call Jacqueline Marie Best my mother and my hero.”
