Report: Texas A&M QB could miss remainder of season
Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman could miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury suffered last Saturday vs. Auburn, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.
Weigman, a sophomore, limped to the locker room after injuring his lower right leg late in the first half of the Aggies’ 27-10 victory over the Tigers in College Station, and did not return to the game. Head coach Jimbo Fisher said Monday that Weigman is officially listed as “day-to-day,” but the Chronicle’s Brent Zwerneman reported Wednesday that “further tests revealed a more extensive injury than a bad sprain.”
Max Johnson, a former LSU transfer, replaced Weigman against Auburn and passed for 123 yards two touchdowns to lift the Aggies to their third victory in four games this season. Johnson is listed as the starter for Texas A&M’s game vs. Arkansas on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
Weigman, a five-star recruit in the 2022 signing class, had passed for 979 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions through three-plus games this year. Johnson, the son of former NFL quarterback Brad Johnson, passed for 2,815 yards and 27 touchdowns at LSU in 2021 before transferring to Texas A&M prior to the 2022 season.
Weigman’s injury is especially untimely because Texas A&M hosts Alabama on Oct. 7.
