21-year-old man jailed in west Alabama apartment slaying

A 21-year-old suspect has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man Saturday at a west Alabama apartment, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Markevion Rice, 21, is being held in the Pickens County Jail on $2 million bond in the slaying of 30-year-old Kenny Ray Brown Jr., said Andrew Hamlin, district attorney for the 24th Judicial District of Alabama.

Brown was fatally shot Saturday in a unit at the Tilley Hamlet apartment complex in Aliceville during a dispute, said Hamlin.

Another victim was also shot and is still being treated for their injuries, the district attorney said.

“Our priority now is to ensure justice is served for Mr. Brown and his family,” Hamlin continued. “We remain committed to a thorough investigation, and appreciate the work of Aliceville PD and Pickens County Sheriff’s Office who worked to make this arrest.”

The investigation was ongoing as of Tuesday and more arrests may be forthcoming, Hamlin said.
