Mother allegedly attacked by son in central Alabama dies of injuries

The woman allegedly attacked by her son Friday night in central Alabama has died of her injuries while her husband is in serious condition following the incident in Marbury, authorities said.

Timothy Graves, 34, of Verbena, was charged with murder and attempted murder in the attacks on Teresa Ann Haston and Kenneth Joe Haston, said Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon on Sunday.

As of Sunday, Kenneth Joe Haston “remains in serious condition, and our team continues to monitor his progress closely,” Shearon said on social media.

Authorities did not say how the Hastons and Graves were related but WBRC reported the victims are Graves’ mother and stepfather.

District Attorney C.J. Robinson could not be reached for comment on the case.

Chilton County sheriff’s deputies and Clanton police officers responded to the incident around 3:45 p.m. Friday in Marbury, the sheriff’s office said.

While the person who called authorities about the incident reported that the victims were shot, law enforcement did not find any evidence showing the victims’ injuries were caused by gunshots, according to the sheriffs’ office.

The suspect, identified as Graves, emerged from the porch of the home when authorities took him into custody without incident.

Authorities found the victims near the house. They were taken to an air ambulance.
