Hundreds of new students flowing into Madison County’s three public school districts

Madison County is one of the fastest growing counties in Alabama and school enrollment in its three public school systems reflect that growth.

All three systems – Huntsville City, Madison City and Madison County Schools – are reporting increases in student enrollment since the beginning of the school year.

“We’re very excited about where we are going,” Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Clarence Sutton said. Sutton said his district saw a dip in enrollment during the Covid years, but that trend seems to have been reversed.

At a forum at city hall the day after Labor Day, he said the system’s enrollment including pre-K was 23,535. Enrollment at the end of last school year was 22,858, which was a drop of about 300 students from the previous year.

Sutton said current enrollment puts the district in the top five of the state’s largest school districts.
