Kareem Jackson gets ejection, but not biggest NFL fine

Fined last week by the NFL for an unnecessary-roughness penalty on a hit that left Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers with a concussion, Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been fined again this week for an unnecessary-roughness penalty on a hit that left Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas with a concussion.

The former Alabama defensive back also was ejected from the game for the hit on Thomas on Sunday.

But Jackson did not receive the biggest fine handed out by the NFL this week, even among players from Alabama high schools and colleges.

According to the NFL’s report on fines for Week 2 of the season, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander (Oxford) received a fine of $43,709 for a tackle that did not draw a flag during Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns. Ironically, on Friday came reports that Alexander’s $43,709 fine for a preseason hit had been rescinded upon appeal.

The NFL cited Alexander’s hit when pushing Browns running back Jerome Ford out of bounds in the second quarter on Monday night as the reason for the fine for the Pittsburgh linebacker.

Turning that play around, Ford (Alabama) also was fined for unnecessary roughness on a 9-yard run that ended when he was tackled by Alexander. Ford was not penalized during the game, but the NFL fined him $5,281.

Alexander and Ford appear to have been fined for leading with their helmets.

The NFL levied 10 fines to players in the Cleveland-Pittsburgh game, but Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick wasn’t one of them. The former Alabama All-American’s tackle of Nick Chubb in the second quarter came under scrutiny when the Browns running back sustained a season-ending knee injury on the play.

Last week, Jackson got a $14,819 fine. This time around, the NFL docked him $19,669.
