First woman space shuttle pilot speaking in Huntsville this weekend

Retired NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force Col. Eileen Collins will speak Sunday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. The 2 p.m. event in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration’s National Geographic Theater is free and open to the public.

Collins will also sign copies of her book, “Through the Glass Ceiling to the Stars: The Story of the First American Woman to Command a Space Mission.” Collins flew on four space shuttle missions and was the first woman to pilot a shuttle and command a space mission.

Before becoming an astronaut, Collins was an instructor pilot for the Air Force on numerous aircraft.
