Fortnite refunds as part of $245 million settlement: Here’s how to apply

If you were a Fortnite gamer – or the parent of a Fortnite gamer – who was charged for an unwanted purchase, you may be eligible for a refund.

The Federal Trade Commission said Epic Games, the company responsible for Fortnite, agreed to pay $245 million to settle allegations related to in-game purchases. According to the FTC, the company charged gamers and parents of all ages for unwanted items and locked the accounts of customers who disputed wrongful charges with their credit card companies.

The amount of refund will depend on how many claims are filed, the FTC said. Refunds will come via PayPal or check but a delivery date has not been set.

Millions of Fortnite players were notified via email this week and more emails are set to go out in the following weeks. You can also apply for a refund here if :

  • You were charged in-game currency for items you didn’t want between January 2017 and September 2022
  • Your child made charges to your credit card without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018
  • Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your credit card company about wrongful charges.

You must be at least 18 years old to complete a claim form. If not, a parent or a guardian must complete the refund. You will need the claim number sent in the email or Epic Account ID. If you didn’t get an email with a claim number, you can locate your Epic Account ID here.

The deadline to file is Jan. 17, 2024.
