Trevon Diggs suffers season-ending injury, reports say

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs was on crutches in the NFL team’s locker room after practice on Thursday, and quarterback Dak Prescott told reporters: “Hoping for the best. Simple as that.”

It didn’t turn out that way.

During practice on Thursday, Diggs sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, NFL Network and ESPN reported. Such an injury would be season-ending.

With Diggs entering the final season of his rookie contract in 2023, the Cowboys signed him in July to a five-year, $97 million contract extension.

Diggs is in his fourth NFL season. He joined the Cowboys from Alabama in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft and has been a Pro Bowl selection for the past two seasons.

In 2021, Diggs earned first-team All-Pro recognition as he intercepted 11 passes, the most in one season in the NFL in 40 years.

Diggs already has one interception this season to bring his career total to 18.

During the Cowboys’ two victories in 2023, quarterbacks targeting receivers covered by Diggs have a microscopic 4.6 passing-efficiency rating. During Diggs’ All-Pro season, the rating was 55.8.

Dallas is scheduled to play the Arizona Cardinals at 3:25 p.m. CDT Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
