Who is the Week 4 Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week?
Senior running back A’mari Brundidge averaged more than 13 yards per carry as he helped Parker remain undefeated on the season with a 62-28 rout of Mortimer Jordan. For his efforts, Brundidge earned a narrow advantage in the Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week poll for Week 4.
Brundidge, a 6-foot, 214-pound senior, ran for 175 yards on 13 attempts and scored a pair of touchdowns in the Class 6A, Region 5 win for the No. 4 Thundering Herd (4-0). Brundidge earned 10,447 votes – 30 percent of the 34,458 ballots cast in the AL.com poll.
Senior outside linebacker Jadon Cantley of Hewitt-Trussville finished second at 29 percent with 9,955 votes. Cantley had five tackles with a tackle-for-loss, a sack and a forced fumble in the sixth-ranked Huskies’ 42-7 win over 7A, Region 3 win over Tuscaloosa County. Hewitt held the Wildcats to 67 total yards in the opening half of the rout.
Josh Thompson of Briarwood Christian finished third in the poll after completing 17-of-21 passes for 203 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Lions’ second straight win, a 28-21 over Pelham in Class 6A, Region 3 play. Thompson also ran six times for 32 yards and a TD.
Voting for the Hollis Wright Birmingham Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.
In Week 3, more than 52,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
