Popular Birmingham bakery selling out new item every day, in time for fall
Fall is here, and that means our favorite flavors are popping up everywhere, including at K&J Elegant Pastries in Birmingham.
Throughout the season, K&J’s will rotate two of their new cupcake flavors on the menu. The flavors include: Blueberry Streusel, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Ultimate Turtle Brownie, Pumpkin Caramel Latte, Lemon Meringue Pie, Caramel Apple, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cinnamon Roll.
In addition to the rollout of fall flavored cupcakes, K&J’s is now offering Cinnamon Roll Bites.
Owner Kristal Thomas-Bryant said she was inspired by Auntie Anne’s Pretzel Bites. “I was in the Las Vegas airport and stopped by Auntie Anne’s, I don’t know if the dough was fresh, but it was just so good,” she told AL.com. “So I figured, I would try making bites out of our cinnamon rolls.”
The cinnamon roll bites are chopped up miniature pieces of cinnamon roll dough, drowned in a sugary cinnamon mix. The chewy and warm bites have an instant sweet flavor with a hint of a citrus scent from the cinnamon. The cup of warm icing is literally the “icing on the cake” for this perfect dessert.
Bryant debuted the bites earlier this month, and they have since sold out every day with selling about 25-30 containers a day. “I have customers who only come to get cinnamon rolls, are now only getting the cinnamon roll bites,” she said. “They love them.”
The bites come in a pack of eight with a cup of icing for $5.
“I think because there’s more icing with the cinnamon roll bites than the actual cinnamon roll, that’s what makes it so popular,” Bryant said.
K&J’s Elegant Pastries opened in the Birmingham area in 2013. The bakery is known for their Kolassal Milkshakes, uniquely flavored cupcakes, and bright pink stores. There are two Birmingham area locations, one in the BJCC’s Uptown area and one in Hoover’s Ross Bridge.
