A suspect has been charged in the weekend shooting death of a Birmingham mother who was killed in the presence of her child.

Arkeem Tiyon Marshall, 32, is charged with capital murder in the slaying of 28-year-old TiMira Marchelle Pullom. The charge is capital because Pullom’s child was present at the time of the deadly shooting.

Marshall was booked into the Birmingham City Jail Sunday morning on a felony hold and then transferred to the Jefferson County Jail once the warrant against him was obtained Monday from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

He was booked into the county lockup at 11:38 a.m. and is being held without bond.

Authorities said the fatal shooting was domestic in nature. Marshall and Pullom shared a toddler son.

Pullom’s family said they are in shock over her death and released this statement to AL.com:

“TiMira was not only a devoted mother, daughter, and friend but also an embodiment of kindness and compassion. She possessed an unwavering commitment to assisting those in need, and her smile radiated a profound sense of warmth to all who had the privilege of crossing her path. The memory of her luminous spirit will forever be engraved in our hearts and cherished in our thoughts.”

West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 3700 block of Pine Avenue S.W.

Police entered the home and found Pullom unresponsive inside.

The coroner’s office said the shooting happened at 11:24 p.m. Saturday. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead on the scene at 1:10 a.m. Sunday.

Pullom is the city’s 92nd homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and seven others have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 131 homicides including the 92 in Birmingham.
