Who are the highest paid Madison County employees?

As is the case with the city of Huntsville, elected officials aren’t at the top of the list.

Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon, who was appointed to finish the term of his predecessor Dale Strong after Strong was elected to Congress, makes $141,939.20 a year.

Like Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, he makes about double what the average the average worker in the Huntsville metro area makes a year ($69,235) according to the most recent data from the Alabama Department of Labor, but among county employees, he would only rank fifth.

And Commissioners Tom Brandon, Steve Haraway, Craig Hill, Phil Vandiver, Phil Riddick and Violet Edwards would not even rank in the top 10. They pulled down an average salary of $101,940. 80.

Those employed by the county have the potential to make two to four times the average salary of workers in the metro depending on their position, according to the Madison County salary schedules.
