Construction on new $18 million building on Drake State campus set to begin

Construction on a new, $18.4 million building on the campus of Drake State Community and Technical College is set to begin soon.

Records from Southern Exposure Information show that the Decatur-based Fite Construction obtained a building permit on September 6 for the construction of a new building at 3401 Meridian Drive NW in Huntsville. The owner of the building is listed as Drake State Community College.

Fite Construction also constructed a new residence hall on the campus of Alabama A&M University and The Lofts at Dallas Mill, a multifamily apartment complex in Huntsville.

In addition, Wallace Construction obtained a building permit on behalf of the Alabama Community College System for an $82,761 remodel of a building, according to the records. The project is at 402 Moulton Street E in Decatur.

Between September 5 and September 13, 19 commercial building permits were issued in the Huntsville metro area, worth more than $25 million. There were 117 residential building permits issued during the same time frame, totaling $18.8 million.
