Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a man they say fraudulently tried to cash a check for more than $100,000.

Austin Michael Weathers was taken into custody last month after leading Tarrant police officers on a foot chase but was released on bond and now is being sought again after more charges were filed.

On Sept. 19, police said, officers responded to Tarrant Check Cashing on Pinson Street on a report of a man trying to cash a fraudulent check. He ran from officers but was eventually captured and transported for medical care.

Authorities said they placed into evidence a check in an amount of $106,241.42 that was reportedly issued by PNC Bank. They also had a fake temporary state driver’s license the man was alleged to have used.

At the time, police said, Weathers had active felony warrants for failing to appear on the charges of trafficking in stolen identities, probation revocation, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

On Oct. 4, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office issued new warrants against Weathers for identity theft, obstructing justice using a false identity, attempted theft, possession of a forged instrument and fleeing police. All of the new charges but one are felony crimes.

Once taken back into custody, Weathers will be held without bond.
