The father of Harlow Freeman, the then-9-month-old girl who was reported kidnapped only to be found safe in a car that had rolled away, has been arrested. He is charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a Facebook post from the Parrish Police Department.

Madison Jo Rilee Freeman, 30, father of Harlow Freeman, was reportedly arrested on Friday, Sept. 15. Police said their investigation following the reported kidnapping and subsequent safe recovery of Harlow showed the father had brought Harlow in his car to a potential drug deal, before the car rolled into a ditch.

Another man, identified as Rodney Thomas, 45, of Parrish, was also charged with two drug crimes. Mason Chappel, 19, was charged with interfering with governmental operations in relation to the case.

Parrish police said Madison Freeman was taken into custody in Jasper by the Parrish and Cordova Police Departments and has been transferred to the Walker County Jail. He will go before a judge in the coming days and have his bond will be set at that time, their post said.

The Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigations, United States Marshalls and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency all assisted in the investigation.

Harlow initially went missing and was thought kidnapped on July 10 of this year. She was found more than 12 hours later in her father’s SUV, which had rolled deep into a patch of kudzu. She was dehydrated but ultimately OK after being treated at a local hospital.
