AL.com Top 25: Itâs 2023, and nobody is good.
Four weeks into the 2023 college football season, and nobody is good.
Luckily for us fans, confusion is going to be cleared up in a matter of days. Or at least we hope.
To your average college football fan, this coming Saturday represents Week 4 of the college football season. If you ask me or any of the other college gridiron diehards, it marks the first important point of the college football season.
At the quarter poll, you will see contenders emerge and some needing to establish themselves either in-conference or on a national scale.
Of the 25 ranked teams in this week’s AL.com Top 25 poll, six matchups involve ranked teams.
· Alabama vs. Ole Miss
· Notre Dame vs. Ohio State
· Utah vs. UCLA
· Washington State vs. Oregon State
· Colorado vs. Oregon
· Iowa vs. Penn State
In a four-week span where we’ve really not got a good gauge on anybody, next week is our first measuring stick for nearly the entire AL.com Top 25.
So, what does that Top 25 look like this week?
No. 25 Washington State (3-0): Perhaps one of the best stories in college football this season. The Cougs have a massive showdown this coming week vs. Oregon State.
No. 24 Kansas (3-0): It may be the most underrated game on the schedule in Week 4, BYU’s Big 12 debut at Kansas.
No. 23 Miami (3-0): Is Miami the second-best team in the ACC? Probably yes. But that’s nothing to write home about.
No. 22 UCLA (3-0): Huge test in the Pac-12 opener vs. Utah this week.
No. 21 Kansas State (2-1): No shame in losing at the final gun to Missouri, now they host UCF in an important Big 12 opener.
No. 20 Ole Miss (3-0): This may be Lane Kiffin’s greatest shot to take down Alabama, Rebs could be favored.
No. 19 Iowa (3-0): Iowa’s first major test of the season is *checks notes* a “White-Out” game at Penn State. Dear God.
No. 18 North Carolina (3-0): The Tar Heels with a very tricky game at Pitt next weekend. They should survive that one. Keyword here is should.
No. 17 Oregon State (3-0): Winner of Oregon State-Wazzu gets to decide the Pac-2 fate next season?
No. 16 Oklahoma (3-0): A highly intriguing Big 12 opener vs. Cincinnati this week.
No. 15 Tennessee (2-1): Umm Vols, what on God’s green earth was that on Saturday?
No. 14 Colorado (3-0): Deion’s dream start at Colorado could quickly turn into a nightmare over the next two weeks with games at Oregon and at home vs. USC.
No. 13 Oregon (3-0): Does a win vs. Colorado push Oregon QB Bo Nix into the Heisman discussion?
No. 12 Utah (3-0): There’s tons of intrigue with their matchup vs. UCLA this week.
No. 11. Alabama (2-1): Yeah…We all saw the game, it wasn’t great!

No. 9 Notre Dame (4-0): The first of three massive games for Notre Dame begin this week with Ohio State.
No. 8 Washington (3-0): Michael Penix Jr. absolutely deserves a healthy amount of Heisman votes a month into the season.
No. 7 Penn State (3-0): It’s “White-Out” week vs. Iowa, Penn State may very well be a top five team by this time next week.
No. 6 Texas (3-0): A win is a win vs. Wyoming. I’d expect them to play much better in Big 12 play.
No. 5 USC (3-0): The Trojans had a week off this past week, Pac-12 play begins on the road at Arizona State.
No. 4 Ohio State (3-0): We will learn a lot more about the Buckeyes this week when they face Notre Dame.
No. 3. Florida State (3-0): If you’re Florida State, you’re just happy to survive one of the three games Boston College shows life in. Up next? Clemson!
