Alabama woman shoots, kills estranged husband breaking into her home, sheriff says

A Russell County woman shot her husband Saturday morning as he was trying to force his way into her home, according to authorities.

The incident happened in Hatchechubbee, an unincorporated area west of Phenix City, according to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

The Russell County Sheriff’s Office said Corey Terrell Doner, 40, suffered one gunshot wound to his abdomen. He died later that morning at Piedmont Medical Center in Columbus.

Doner’s wife, who shot him, was in the process of reinstating a restraining order on him that had expired about a week before.

The case will be presented to a grand jury. Investigators believe the shooting was an act of self-defense.
