Some of the best and worst cities to own a vacation rental are in Alabama

If you’re looking to own a vacation rental property in Alabama, you’re in luck. A recent study found that several cities in the state are among the best to set up shop.

LawnStarter, a website dedicated to finding local professionals to do lawn work, determined a series of metrics relating to owning vacation rentals. Among those were revenue potential, operating expenses and guest safety. The website then assigned a weight to each factor and calculated each score to determine its rank.

The website found that Birmingham was the second best place in the country to own a vacation rental. Birmingham’s occupancy rate in past 12 months was 45%. People that already own rental homes in the area earned an average revenue of $20,761 in the past 12 months.

Mobile joins Birmingham at No. 4 on the list. The website didn’t go into specific numbers, but high occupancy rates and high revenue potential were listed among the pluses for the Port City.

Rounding out the Alabama entries on the list is Montgomery at No. 74 and Huntsville at No. 98. According to the website, Montgomery and Huntsville have the lowest average daily short-term rental rates on the list.
