Missouri’s Harrison Mevis kicks 61-yard game-winner vs. KSU
Missouri is unbeaten at 3-0 thanks to the kick of a lifetime by Harrison Mevis.
Mevis boomed a 61-yard field goal on the final play to help the Tigers knock off No. 15 Kansas State 30-27 in Columbia on Saturday. As you might expect, the fantastic finish resulted in a field storming by Mizzou fans at Faurot Field.
Here’s video of the kick:
The 5-foot-11, 243-pound Mevis, nicknamed “The Thicc Kicker,” was a freshman All-American in 2020 and a first-team All-SEC pick in 2021. However, he’d struggled with consistency of late, famously missing a 26-yarder at the end of regulation in Missouri’s overtime loss to Auburn last season.
But he was dead on Saturday, making the game-winner — the second of his college career — with distance to spare. His previous career-long was 56, set against Boston College in 2021.
Missouri trailed Kansas State (3-1) by a touchdown entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Wildcats 13-3 in the final 15 minutes. Brady Cook’s 26-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden gave the Tigers their first lead at 27-24 with 8:24 left, but KSU’s Chris Tennant tied the game at 27 on a 26-yard field goal with 5:25 to play.
Missouri got the ball back after a punt with 1:25 remaining, but couldn’t get past the Kansas State 44. The game appeared destined for overtime before Mevis’ long-distance kick ended it.
