First responders are on the scene of a crash involving a Birmingham City Schools bus and an 18-wheeler.

The wreck happened at 12:05 p.m. Friday on Interstate 59 at Interstate 65.

The 18-wheeler was hauling cars, most of which received damage, according to police radio communications. Police said there were students on the bus.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Jack Hicks said five children are being transported to the hospital. Three sustained minor injuries and one sustained moderate injuries.

The fifth is being transported by his or her parents.
