Suspect shoots at female, chases authorities through Alabama, Georgia

A suspect fired several shots at a female Thursday in north Alabama before speeding away and leading authorities on a chase through two states before he was arrested, police said.

Ider police officers responded to a call of shots fired on DeKalb County Road 141 on Thursday when they saw a vehicle exiting a driveway at a high rate of speed, said Chief Stephen Malone.

A pursuit ensued and deputies from the DeKalb County and Dade County, Georgia sheriff’s offices joined the chase as the pursuit crossed into Georgia, said Malone.

Trenton, Georgia, police officers deployed spike strips at Highway 136, which successfully struck the suspect’s tires, said Malone.

The suspect’s vehicle then became immobilized and turned into the Dollar General Store near the intersection of Pace Drive.

The suspect, identified as Justice Michael Reeves, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Dade Middle School, which went into lockdown during the incident.

Reeves was ultimately taken into custody before reaching the school, according to Malone.

He faces felony charges in Georgia and is awaiting extradition back to Alabama to face felony charges in Ider, the chief said.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting incident and charges are pending with the agency.

“It’s an absolute miracle that after a shooting, police pursuit through multiple jurisdictions and states that there was no serious injuries,” Malone said. “It just goes to show the type of ;aw enforcement [DeKalb County] Sheriff [Nick] dWelden, [Dade County] Sheriff [Ray] Cross and [Trenton] Chief [Steve] Beaudoin keep on their staff.”

“Thank God for these men and women who go above and beyond putting their lives on the line for their communities they serve every single day,” Malone continued.
