NFL’s fastest ball-carriers have Alabama roots

Five of the six fastest speeds reached by ball-carriers during the first week of the NFL’s 2023 season were achieved by former Alabama college stars.

According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, players from Alabama high schools and colleges turned in the first-, second-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-fastest speeds for Week 1 ball-carriers as well as the 13th and 14th on the list:

· Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) reached 21.66 mph on a 47-yard reception in the fourth quarter of a 36-34 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

· Hill reached 21.52 mph on a 35-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter against the Chargers.

· Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (Alabama) reached 20.99 mph on a 35-yard reception in the first quarter against the Chargers.

· Detroit Lions defensive back Brian Branch (Alabama) reached 20.74 mph on a 50-yard touchdown interception return in the third quarter of a 21-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.

· Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (Alabama) reached 20.56 mph on a 46-yard reception during a 16-15 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

· Dallas Cowboys cornerback Noah Igbinoghene (Hewitt-Trussville, Auburn) reached 19.84 mph on a 58-yard blocked field-goal touchdown return in the first quarter of a 40-0 victory over the New York Giants.

· Waddle reached 19.68 mph on a 22-yard reception in the second quarter against the Chargers.
