Watch as Auburn’s Hugh Freeze helps baptize freshman safety Sylvester Smith
The water’s edge of Auburn’s Ag Heritage Park pond was a busy, buys place Tuesday night as some of the thousands that attended “UNITE Auburn” flocked to the water after 10 p.m. for a wave of baptisms that stretched well into the night.
Of those attending the event, which featured speakers and a worship band performance, was Auburn head football coach Hugh Freeze, who — along with head basketball coach Bruce Pearl and head baseball coach Butch Thompson — promoted the worship event in the weeks leading up to Tuesday night.
Following the event, Freeze was one of those who took to Auburn’s Ag Heritage Park — otherwise known as the Red Barn — as more than 100 students were baptized, according to Auburn basketball player Dylan Cardwell, who posted on the social platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Auburn freshman safety Sylvester Smith was among those wading into the pond’s water Tuesday night after UNITE.
And he didn’t do it alone as Freeze also walked waist deep into the water, accompanying Smith as another young gentleman explained the baptism process and its meaning to Smith.
