Wisconsin bar offered Packers fans free drinks if Aaron Rodgers started, Jets lost; It didnât go well
Jack’s American Pub in Milwaukee had a fun and good-natured promotion for its Green Bay Packers fans. Free drinks if the New York Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers lose.
It was a little ribbing at Rodgers, the former Packers quarterback.
There were stipulations, of course. Rodgers had to start the game, but he didn’t have to finish it. You see where this is going?
Cheers erupted at the bar when Rodgers was injured in the first four plays of the game. The cheers were, it should be noted, for the free drinks, not because the man was injured. Still, it was later revealed Rodgers is tore his Achilles and will miss the season.
With a Jets loss almost a certainty, patrons ran up their bar tabs to the max.
Here’s the thing, though. The New York Jets pulled off one of their most exciting and unlikely victories in years, even if they couldn’t completely enjoy it.
With the game tied, Micheal Clemons forced a fumble by Allen that was recovered by Quinnen Williams, setting up Greg Zuerlein’s third field goal — a 30-yarder — with 1:48 remaining to put the Jets ahead for the first time.
But Josh Allen and the Bills had just enough time to get in scoring position again, and Tyler Bass’ 50-yard kick hit the left upright before going over the crossbar to tie it at 16 with 2 seconds left in regulation.
After Buffalo went three-and-out to start overtime, Sam Martin punted 42 yards and Gipson fielded it, made a few moves early and then scampered down the left sideline, made a couple more cuts and zipped into the end zone to set off a huge celebration by his teammates.
Local news was in the bar when the Jets rallied, and captured the emotion when everyone realized their overblown bar tabs were due.
