New schools are needed in Huntsville. But where will they go?

Where should Huntsville build new schools to keep up with the city’s growth?

East Huntsville resident Sue Alexander would like to see a new high school near Owens Cross Roads.

“We’ve got to have a school over here,” she said at a town hall held about a proposed Village of Providence-type development off Old Big Cove Road.

“The schools are overflowing out here,” she said. “We need a high school out here. We don’t need to have teenagers driving back over the mountain.”

She gets no argument from Mark Ratliff and his son Luke. They agreed with her that schools are overflowing on the other side of Monte Sano and Green Mountain. Young Luke echoes her call for a new high school on that side of the mountain.
