Fire swept through an abandoned Birmingham house, leaving one man dead.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Birmingham police responded about 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the house in the 8500 block of Third Avenue North.

Once the flames were extinguished, an adult Black male was found dead inside, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. He has not yet been identified.

BFRS investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
