A 75-year-old man was charged with murder after he allegedly killed his wife Thursday morning in north Alabama, police said.

Scottsboro police officers responded to a call in the 600 block of S. Market Street about a man killing his wife inside a home, said Det. Sgt. Ryan Putnam.

At the home, officers found Alvin Dean Cornelison, 75, who told authorities he killed his wife, Mary, and that she was inside the home, Putnam said.

Cornelison was arrested and charged with murder.

He was booked in the Jackson County Jail, where bond information is pending.
