Dollar Tree changing prices back to $1 on hundreds of items
Dollar Tree is rolling back its prices on hundreds of items.
GoBankingRates.com reported the discount chain is planning on changing some of its prices back to the $1 due in part to competition from other retailers.
“It’s pretty hard to have a banner like (Dollar Tree), and you have an item that everybody else has at $1, and you’re at a buck and a quarter,” Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling told an investors’ conference last week, according to the reports.
Chief merchandising officer Rick McNeely estimated the change will involve as many as 400 of the 8,000 items, roughly 5%, of the items sold by Dollar Tree.

Prices will be labeled on the shelves and packaging, McNeely said.
Dollar Tree announced in 2021 it was changing its price model to include items up to $5. At the time, the company said it was being done to allow it to provide additional products.
Chesapeake, Virginia-based Dollar Tree operates a total of 15,865 across 48 states.
