Lane Kiffin doubles down on clock rule rant: âI donât get itâ
Lane Kiffin continues to question why college football has changed the clock rules get this season.
No longer does the clock stop on first downs, unless the game is under two minutes in either half in an attempt to speeding up the game. The Ole Miss coach still doesn’t get it.
“I just don’t understand it,” Kiffin said Wednesday. “People pay to see, they sit down as a family to watch the game. They pay for tickets to go to a game, and we’re going to shorten it. It’s not like it was broke, and we’ve got a lot of problems that need to be fixed in the world around college football and running the clock so a game’s quicker, I don’t get it.
“I said to the staff, you go to a country concert, you want them to sing two less songs? At your favorite concert? No, well why do you want a game to be shorter. They just don’t really show much awareness about what should be getting worked on and fixed around college football in my opinion.”
Kiffin isn’t the first to gripe about the change.
UCLA coach Chip Kelly made a point to take a jab at the rule during an on-the-field interview in the midst of his team’s opening game against Coastal Carolina.
“This new rule, it’s crazy,” Kelly said during his interview. “We had four drives in the first half. This game goes fast. Hope you guys are selling a lot of commercials.”
On Tuesday, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin added his opinion on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“So do you guys buy tickets to go see Morgan Wallen or Taylor Swift or your favorite concerts and want a few less songs at the end?” he asked. “With all the issues in college football this is what you actually made a change to?”
