Huntsville stocks endure hefty losses

The start of a shortened trading week Tuesday was not kind to most of the stocks on our Huntsville and Alabama Stock Report as all but three took losses and 16 saw drops of at least 2%.

Community Health Systems took the biggest hit, dropping 5.6%.

Huntsville-area stocks Carpenter Technology, Adtran and Sanmina were next, falling 3.5%, 3.1% and 3.1%, respectively.

The three gainers: Honda (2%), Toyota (1.6%) and U.S. Steel (.5%).

Overall, major stock indexes on Wall Street closed lower Tuesday, giving back some of their recent gains as traders returned from a long holiday weekend.

The S&P 500 fell 0.4%, while the Nasdaq composite slipped 0.1%. Both indexes were coming off their second weekly gain. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.6%.
