Auburn football receives votes in first in-season AP Top 25 poll

Auburn football received three voting points in the AP Top 25 poll released Tuesday after Week 1 of the 2023 college football season.

That puts Auburn as the 35th overall team based on those receiving votes outside of the poll and last among teams in the SEC West. Auburn is tied with Troy, Fresno State, Minnesota and Wyoming with three voting points.

Brian Fonesca of NJ Advance Media ranked Auburn at No. 21 and Brett McMurphy of the Action Network ranked Auburn at No. 24. Those were the only two who voted for Auburn in the preseason poll, and they both ranked Auburn in the same spots in the preseason poll as this poll released Tuesday.

Auburn won its first game 59-14 against UMass on Saturday, rushing for nearly 300 yards.

Five teams on Auburn’s upcoming schedule are ranked in the poll: No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama, No. 14 LSU, No. 20 Ole Miss and No. 23 Texas A&M.

Duke and Colorado both joined the ranking after upset wins over then-No. 9 Clemson and then-No. 17 TCU respectively.

The previous AP poll was the preseason ranking, where Auburn was also unranked. Auburn received seven voting points in that poll, which made it the 37th overall team. That put Auburn sixth among the seven SEC West schools to begin the season.
