Suspect charged in death of man who was killed while riding bicycle in east Birmingham

A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a man who was killed while riding his bicycle in east Birmingham last month.

Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of 41-year-old Bradley Davis. He is charged with murder in the Aug. 8 slaying of Frederick Douglas Berry Jr., also 41.

The deadly shooting happened at 4:16 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the 7000 block of First Avenue South.

East Precinct officers arrived on the scene to find Berry unresponsive. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he pronounced at 4:57 a.m.

Investigators at the time said Berry was riding his bike when the gunman approached him and opened fire. It was believed to be a targeted attack, police said, but have not released a motive.

Davis was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:18 p.m. Friday and remains held without bond.
