Albertville High School football player dies in crash

An Albertville high school football player died in a car accident early Monday morning.

The 16-year-old Albertville High School student was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to the Marshall County Coroner’s office, which responded to the single car crash at about 7 a.m. Monday.

“Our entire system is deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to them,” said Albertville City Schools spokesperson Miranda Humphrey in a statement Monday.

Humphrey said the school is providing counselors and support services tomorrow at the high school to help students responding to the loss. LifePoint Church will be open to offer support tonight.

The crash happened at the 2500 block of Alabama Highway 205 N in Albertville. The Albertville Police Department is investigating.

“ACS is a tight-knit community, and together, we will find strength and support one another through this difficult period of grief and mourning,” said Humphrey. “If any student needs to talk to someone, our dedicated Mental health Coordinator Kristi Rains can be reached at [email protected].”

The Albertville Police Department said the name of the student could not be released. Information about a memorial service is not yet available.
